Stand Up on the Rogue
Learn how to 'walk on water' with this new Rogue River sport
The Rogue River is a prime destination each summer in Oregon. Spending a day on the river is by far the best way to enjoy the warm temperatures and beautiful scenery.
This year, there's another less common way to experience the Rogue - stand up paddleboards.
Northwest Rafting Company is the first local company to offer lessons on this amazing watercraft.
Similar to a surf board, paddleboards are flat, wide boards that allow the user to stand up as they use a single paddle to maneuver in the water. The paddles are about 10 feet in length and come in a variety of styles.
The sport is slowly gaining popularity for its versatility - you can paddleboard on any body of water - and get a great core workout.
Come spend the morning enjoying the river canyon on your own two feet as you learn to 'walk on water' with paddle in hand. Instructors will teach you to go with the flow as you learn how to read the water, navigate small rapids and in the process gain confidence in this new sport.
After you get your footing, enjoy a quick lunch and build up an appetite for the afternoon as you move downriver using your newly-found skills.
